A little over a week ago, Google unveiled major changes to their search results. As Google strives to provide relevant content to users, they now place a larger emphasis on localization--more specifically with Google Places. Local searches now display Google Places listings at the top of search results, blended with organic listings. This move dramatically increases the importance of maintaining your business’ Google Place page (or pages if you have multiple locations).
What does your business need to do?
1. Claim your Google Places page (or pages)
2. Keep your information up-to-date
3. Add categories, photos, your website URL, and anything and everything else Google will allow. It’s FREE.
4. Encourage reviews from sites like Yelp, Citysearch, Superpages and Insiderpages
Following these few steps will help your business stay on top of Google’s latest push to have Google Places in the forefront, although claiming and updating your Google Places does not guarantee you a top spot.
We’d like to encourage you with a few words from Dr. Seuss:
“You won't lag behind, because you'll have the speed.
You'll pass the whole gang and you'll soon take the lead.
Wherever you fly, you'll be best of the best.
Wherever you go, you will top all the rest.
Except when you don’t
Because, sometimes, you won’t.”
Creative Link recommends your business stay aware of the latest changes made by Google, learn how it may impact your business and take immediate action. If Google is making a big deal about Google Places, it’s wise that you do too!
