Here's a list of my favorite Super Bowl® commercials. Oops! did I just infringe a copyright? I meant to say "The Big Game". I like these spots because they each provided something unexpected, a key ingredient for viral video.
CareerBuilder® - Parking Lot: Okay, so here's my confession: anyone who has hung out with me knows I love monkeys. I really didn't realize how much I like monkeys until E-Trade did a great spot a few years ago with a monkey. It was the conversation at work for days later. For some reason it's just funny to do even the mundane of activities when your casting a monkey. I'd love to use the comedic powers of monkeys with one of our clients... come on clients, who's with me?!?!
Volkswagen® - The Force: I was shown this spot before the game by a friend who knows I have a 4 year old son who walks around the house dressed as a Storm Trooper. I had to share it with him since my son truly connects to this commercial. I won't be buying my son a VW anytime soon though. I do think it's clever because it's funny, AND you walk away know exactly what the product is.
Pepsi MAX® - LOVE HURTS: I grew up watching The Three Stooges, so slapstick is always good old fashioned fun for me. So I must admit it's really easy to hate the wife in this spot, but the redemption is made with the painful slapstick ending.
Teleflora® - Help Me Faith: This spot was sexist, but funny. It made a list for worst spots, but it made me laugh.
Brisk® - Eminem Not the best commercial during the game, but I love stop motion animation. SO, this one earns points for style and creative use of set design.
Snickers® - Logging: You ever have a moment where you involuntarily laugh from the gut and immediately think "Im glad I wasn't drinking milk". Watching this commercial gave me one of those moments.
Doritos® - The Best Part: I really love/hate this spot. I once worked with a guy that really did not respect my personal space... at least I he never sucked the Doritos cheese from my fingers -- that's so wrong!
Pepsi MAX® - FIRST DATE: Geeez, some guys only have one thing on their mind. It's a stereotype, and this spot puts a funny spin to it.
Doritos® - House sitting: This commercial delivers the unexpected over and over. The timing is great, the ending is solid. A winner in my book. You know it's going viral when a friend comments during the Halftime Show "They should have sprinkled some Doritos on Michael Jackson."
Coca Cola® Siege: I am a sucker for great animation. This scores high in creative and technical animation achievements for a commercial. I actually thought it was a trailer for a new Dreamworks film, until the Coke bottle appeared.
